Sarah McLachlan School of Music (SoM) offers after-school music classes to children and youth facing barriers to accessing traditional music programs. SoM is committed to providing inclusive, equitable community music education with a student-centered approach and is free to all eligible students.

SoM Greater Surrey’s new location at Douglas College includes group classes, a daily nutritious snack program and performance opportunities showcasing diverse musical styles. 

SoM provides high quality music education at no cost. Our programs have limited space available with a commitment to enrolling applicants whose lives will be most impacted by attending SoM. We are currently accepting new students, if you think someone would benefit and would be eligible, please encourage them to apply.

Musical Discovery program

All SoM students are part of our core program: Junior Musical Discovery (Grades 4-7) or Senior Musical Discovery (Grades 8-12) where students build the foundational skills needed before they can join another class or play their own music independently.

Students can choose guitar, bass, piano, band, hip-hop, songwriting, voice or percussion as their main focus and build their music knowledge with people who share their passion.
