The Sarah McLachlan School of Music (SoM) is excited to announce upcoming instructional opportunities as part of new programming initiatives in Edmonton, AB starting in April 2016.
SoM provides top quality music education at no cost for at risk and underserved children and youth. As advocates helping children and youth transcend barriers they may be facing, our program uses music as a tool of inspiration for students to connect with themselves and one another in a safe and nurturing environment.

Position: Musical Mentor
Location: Edmonton, Alberta (Rundle Elementary and Eastglen High School)
Time: 2pm-6pm, two days per week
Children: 24 students at each location
SoM is looking to build an instructional team of 3 to 5 musical mentors who would be responsible to deliver and help administer foundational skills programming to small groups of underserved and at-risk children/youth at both Rundle Elementary and Eastglen High School after school. Potential candidates will demonstrate experienced musicianship, teaching practice, youth empathy and a willingness to explore new educational approaches to sharing music.
The preliminary application process is composed of three self-directed components:
· An online application form (below) to gather personal, experiential and educational information on potential candidates.
· An informal video reflection component based on a topic supplied by SoM. This can be recorded on a device of choice, uploaded by the applicant and a link emailed to Jen Rose.
· An interview: Interviews will be conducted in person on March 9th and 10th, and via skype following March 10th.
Potential candidates are also invited to apply as a team if proven instructional and/or organizational chemistry pre-exists among applicants.
